Kansas City-based WeDevelopment Federal Credit Union has officially merged into CommunityAmerica Federal Credit Union out of Lenexa, Kansas.
Back on July 10, 2026, the NCUA stepped in and placed WeDevelopment into conservatorship—essentially putting the credit union into a financial timeout while regulators sorted out some safety and soundness concerns. After working through the issues and talking with everyone involved, the NCUA decided that merging with CommunityAmerica was the best path forward for members.
WeDevelopment was a relatively young institution, chartered in 2022 with a focused mission: serving underserved communities across 57 census tracts in Jackson County, Missouri. With 1,015 members and $2.4 million in assets, it was a small but community-focused operation.
CommunityAmerica, on the other hand, is playing in a different league entirely—nearly 595,000 members and $9 billion in assets. That’s a significant upgrade in resources and stability for WeDevelopment members.
Got Questions?
The bottom line? While change can feel unsettling, this merger puts WeDevelopment members with a larger, well-established institution while keeping all your protections firmly in place.
