The National Credit Union Administration today released its second quarter credit union system performance data for 2026.
Highlights from the Second Quarter 2026 NCUA Quarterly Data Summary Report include:
- Total assets in federally insured credit unions rose by $120 billion, or 5.0 percent, over the year ending in the second quarter of 2026[CR2.1], to $2.50 trillion.
- Total loans outstanding increased $82 billion, or 4.9 percent, over the year, to $1.76 trillion. The average outstanding loan balance in the second quarter of 2026 was $19,906, up $978, or 5.2 percent, from one year earlier.
- The delinquency rate at federally insured credit unions was 96 basis points in the second quarter of 2026, up 6 basis points from one year earlier. The net charge-off ratio was 78 basis points, little changed compared with the second quarter of 2025.
- Insured shares and deposits rose $80 billion, or 4.3 percent, over the year ending in the second quarter of 2026, to $1.91 trillion.
- The loan to share ratio stood at 82.9 percent in the second quarter of 2026, down from 83.1 percent in the second quarter of 2025.

The analysis section includes quarterly data summaries and detailed financial information, a graphics package illustrating financial trends in federally insured credit unions, and a spreadsheet listing all federally insured credit unions that filed a call report as of June 30, 2026, including key metrics.
