Connexus Credit Union has signed its second renewal with Alkami Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALKT), extending a partnership that began more than ten years ago when Connexus was one of the digital banking provider’s earliest customers.
Alkami, which provides a digital sales and service platform to U.S. financial institutions, announced the news today. For Connexus, the renewal is about keeping a flexible digital foundation that can change as member expectations and business priorities change.
A platform, plus room to build
Connexus uses Alkami’s Digital Banking Platform to deliver personalized member experiences while pursuing goals in digital engagement, lending, and relationship growth. It also uses Alkami’s software development kit (SDK), a set of tools that lets a team build its own features on top of the platform, to create custom experiences for its members and products.
“Connexus selected Alkami because we wanted a strategic technology partner that could support our long-term vision,” said Laura Huggins, senior vice president of marketing at Connexus. “More than a decade later, that remains true. Alkami gives us a reliable foundation for the everyday member experience while providing the flexibility to build capabilities unique to Connexus and continue advancing our digital strategy. That’s why renewing our partnership was a natural decision.”
Between the platform and the SDK, Connexus has rolled out Snapshot, account alerts, internal and external transfers, and card management. It also built an Xtraordinary Checking progress tracker to set its digital banking apart. These tools help members handle everyday money tasks, and they make the value of Connexus products easier to see inside the app.
The results so far
The digital strategy is showing up in the numbers:
- Loan growth: 38% of lending application volume year-to-date comes through digital banking, up from 16% in 2020.
- Funding: 41% of total loan funding year-to-date comes through digital banking, compared with 12% in 2020.
- Product adoption: Digital banking users hold about 17% more products per member than the average Connexus account holder.
- Satisfaction: Organizational Net Promoter Score (NPS) rose from 42.3 in 2022 to 58 in 2025. Digital banking NPS climbed from 31.1 to 52.7 over the same period.
- Engagement: The mobile app holds a 4.72 blended rating, including more than 14,000 Apple App Store ratings.
“Connexus demonstrates what is possible when a financial institution combines deep member knowledge, internal innovation, and a long-term technology partnership,” said Wayne McCulloch, chief customer officer at Alkami. “Connexus’ continued investment in digital banking is helping create more convenient member experiences while supporting meaningful business outcomes across engagement, lending, and relationship depth. We are proud to continue working alongside Connexus as they build what comes next.”
Turning car loans into relationships
Alkami has published two resources on the partnership. A case study looks at how Connexus uses the platform and SDK to innovate from within, build custom member experiences, and support its wider digital strategy. A companion whitepaper, “Expanding the Relationship Beyond the Indirect Loan,” examines how institutions like Connexus can turn borrowers into deeper relationships.
Huggins explained the challenge. “Indirect borrowers often did not intentionally choose Connexus Credit Union as their financial institution,” she said. “They chose a car or another financial need, and Connexus became the lending partner that helped meet that need. We have to earn the opportunity to build a broader relationship by providing a simple, reliable, and relevant experience from the beginning.”
To earn that opportunity, Connexus uses new member onboarding, digital banking enrollment, convenient loan payments, targeted email and advertising campaigns, personalized in-app messaging, and internally developed next-best-product recommendations. Each one gives members another reason to adopt more products and services.
After more than a decade, Connexus and Alkami are still building on the same foundation.
