“The Wilmington market is among the fastest growing in the country, and the Leland community in particular is booming.”
That’s how Coastal Credit Union President & CEO Tyler Grodi explained the decision to build in Leland, and it’s the clearest summary of why the shovels went into the ground on October 27.
The new branch will sit at 1184 East Cutlar Crossing and span 3,300 square feet. Construction is expected to wrap up by mid-2027.
What members can expect
The headline feature is the service model. Instead of a lobby-first design, the branch leans on drive-up video tellers, which let you talk to a real person on screen from your car. Coastal says no other institution offers this particular schedule.
- Location: 1184 East Cutlar Crossing, Leland, NC
- Size: 3,300 square feet
- Drive-up video tellers: three
- Hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week
- Expected completion: mid-2027
Why Leland, and why now
Coastal pointed to two main drivers: the economic growth across the Wilmington area and a rising number of members who already live nearby. In other words, the credit union is following its own customers.
Grodi framed it as meeting members where they are, while also introducing more residents and businesses to what a member-owned financial cooperative offers. He called the branch “a long-term investment in this community” that positions Coastal “to grow alongside Leland for years to come.”
Who turned out
Board Chair Joan Nelson and Grodi were joined at the groundbreaking by Leland Mayor Brenda Bozeman and Brunswick County Commissioner Frank Williams. Community and business leaders and local credit union members also attended.
If you live or run a business in the Leland area, the branch is still more than a year out, so there’s no rush. Mark mid-2027 on your calendar, and if you already bank with Coastal, think about which errands the extended seven-day hours could make easier.
