When you combine enthusiastic credit union employees, Mickey Mouse’s backyard, and a really good cause, magical things happen.
Case in point: SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union just wrapped up an impressive fundraising run that brought in over $60,000 for Rady Children’s Health in Orange County.
Here’s what makes this even cooler—SchoolsFirst FCU didn’t just show up and write a check. They mobilized 139 team members, plus friends and family, to lace up their sneakers for the 2026 CHOC Walk in the Park. That’s the annual 5K that winds through Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, and the Downtown Disney District. (Yes, you read that right—they got to walk through the actual parks. Not a bad way to support sick kids.)
The final tally? A whopping $60,630 raised by the SchoolsFirst team alone. That performance earned them second place among all corporate fundraising teams and the top spot among credit unions. When the dust settled, CHOC Walk pulled in $2.9 million total to support pediatric care for Orange County families.
For context, SchoolsFirst FCU is California’s largest credit union and the biggest one dedicated to serving school employees and their families. So they’ve got some serious organizational muscle—and clearly, they know how to use it for good.
The credit union sweetened their fundraising efforts with an internal campaign called “T-Shirt for Kids Fridays,” where team members could dress down while giving back. It’s a simple concept that clearly resonated.
This isn’t just a one-off feel-good story, either. SchoolsFirst FCU has an ongoing partnership with Children’s Miracle Network, which happens to be the go-to charity for credit unions nationwide. Their commitment to organizations delivering essential pediatric care in Orange County communities runs deep, and results like this prove they’re not just talking the talk.
Bottom line: When a financial institution puts this kind of energy behind children’s health, everybody wins—especially the kids and families who need it most.
