Here’s a feel-good story to brighten your day: TopLine Financial Credit Union just wrapped up their fifth annual Diaper and Wipe Drive, and the results are pretty impressive.
We’re talking over 3,000 diapers, nearly 100 packs of wipes, and more than a thousand dollars in cash—all headed to families who need it most.
The Twin Cities-based credit union ran the month-long drive throughout April, rallying both members and employees to support four local nonprofits doing critical work with youth and families: Avenues for Youth, Hope 4 Youth, Karen Organization of Minnesota, and YMCA of the North Youth and Family Services.
Jeans for a Good Cause
TopLine got creative with how they encouraged participation. Employees could donate baby care items or cash in exchange for a coveted “Foundation Friday/Saturday” sticker—basically a golden ticket to wear jeans to work. (Never underestimate the motivating power of comfortable pants.)
Members and community folks could also shop from TopLine’s Amazon Wishlist or Target Registry and have items shipped directly to the credit union. No running around required—just point, click, and help out.
When everything was tallied up, the numbers spoke volumes: 3,042 diapers, 93 packs of wipes, and $1,182 in cash donations. Not too shabby for a month’s work.
Why It Matters
“We are dedicated to collaborating with our community non-profit partners to address their current needs,” said Mick Olson, President and CEO of TopLine. “Our people-first philosophy is exemplified by the generosity of our donors, and we sincerely appreciate their compassion in supporting others through challenging times.”
The organizations receiving these donations serve some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Here’s a quick look at who benefits:
Avenues for Youth tackles a sobering statistic: more than 6,000 young people experience homelessness in Minnesota every single night. Their shelters in Brooklyn Park and Minneapolis provide emergency housing and supportive services to over 300 youth annually. Learn more at www.avenuesforyouth.org.
Karen Organization of Minnesota helps refugees navigate their new lives by providing resources and programs focused on economic, social, and cultural well-being. Check them out at mnkaren.org.
Hope 4 Youth supports young people ages 16-24 experiencing homelessness in Anoka County and the northern Twin Cities metro. Visit www.hope4youthmn.org to see how they’re making a difference.
YMCA of the North Youth and Family Services strengthens communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility programs. Find out more at ymcanorth.org/youthandfamilyservices.
It’s proof that when a community comes together—even for something as straightforward as a diaper drive—the impact can be pretty remarkable.
