Listen up: 245 students just scored a collective $200,000 in scholarships, and next year, one of them could be you.
SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union‘s 2026 Member Education Award program rolled out some serious financial support to help students tackle the ever-growing cost of higher education. We’re talking tuition, textbooks, and all those other expenses that somehow add up faster than your campus coffee habit.
Who Got the Money?
This year’s winners span seven states, though most call California home. The breakdown looks like this: 167 high school seniors ready to start their college journey, 43 college freshmen who’ve survived their first year, and 35 sophomores who’ve officially figured out where the library is.
The Member Education Award isn’t exactly new to the game. SchoolsFirst FCU launched this program back in 2000, which means it’s been helping students level up their education for more than a quarter century. That’s a lot of tuition bills.
What It Takes to Win
These aren’t your basic “name in a hat” scholarships. SchoolsFirst looks at the full picture: your GPA, the difficulty of your coursework, recommendation letters, community involvement, school activities, and leadership experience. Think of it as a Greatest Hits compilation of your academic and extracurricular achievements.
“For more than 25 years, the Member Education Award scholarship program has recognized students who demonstrate academic excellence, strong leadership and a commitment to their communities,” explains Josh Smith, vice president of school and community relations for SchoolsFirst FCU. “The goal of these scholarships is to support these outstanding Members as they continue their educational journeys and work toward achieving their goals.”
Can You Apply?
Here’s what you need to qualify: You must be a SchoolsFirst FCU member, have fewer than 60 college credits under your belt, and be enrolled at an accredited college or university for the fall semester. The program is open to high school seniors, college freshmen, and sophomores.
The best part? If you win once and still meet the requirements, you can reapply each year. It’s the scholarship that keeps on giving—as long as you keep up your end of the bargain.
So if you’re a member juggling student loans and ramen budgets, this might be worth a shot. After all, $200,000 in scholarships doesn’t just appear out of thin air, and next year’s batch of awards could have your name on it.
