Summit Credit Union Just Tripled Down on Students’ Futures with $154K in Scholarships

Here’s some good news that deserves more than a scroll-by: Summit Credit Union is putting serious money where their mission is, handing out $154,000 in scholarships to help students tackle the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters.

And here’s the plot twist that makes this even better—the credit union’s Hamilton Fund didn’t just bump up their annual scholarship budget. They tripled it, jumping from $50,000 to $150,000. That’s not a typo. The result? Ninety students are getting financial support to chase their educational dreams.

So who gets the money? It’s not a lottery. Students earned these scholarships through a combination of academic chops, school involvement, and giving back to their communities. The funds can be used for all those lovely college expenses that keep adding up—tuition, books, maybe even some ramen noodles if we’re being realistic.

The Big Picture: Nearly $700K and Counting

Since this program launched, Summit Credit Union has distributed $686,000 in scholarships, helping 626 students level up their education. That’s not just generous—it’s transformative for families and communities.

“We are honored to support our members’ educational journeys through these scholarships, made possible by the extraordinary generosity of our first President/CEO, Elizabeth ‘Sis’ Hamilton and husband, James ‘Jim’ Hamilton,” said James P. Grenon, Vice President of Administration at Summit Credit Union. “Investing in education is an investment in our communities, and we are proud to help these students take the next step toward their future.”

Who Can Apply?

Summit Credit Union keeps the doors wide open. Their scholarships are available to members who are adult learners going back to school or high school seniors ready to dive into full-time post-secondary education. All awards come through the Elizabeth N. and James V. Hamilton Scholarship Fund—named after the folks whose generosity started this whole thing.
