Afena Federal Credit Union Announces Hiring of Misty Harrison as New CEO

Misty Harrison CEO Afena Federal Credit Union

Afena Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce the hiring of Misty Harrison as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In this role, Harrison will lead the credit union’s strategic direction, oversee operations, and advance its mission of providing accessible, member-focused financial services.

“We are excited to welcome Misty Harrison to Afena,” Mark Souers, chair of the Board of Directors, said. “We believe Harrison brings the leadership, experience, and vision necessary to guide the credit union into its next chapter.”

Harrison will begin her role as CEO of the $97.6 million Afena on Nov. 9, 2026, and will work closely with the Board of Directors, employees, members, and community partners to strengthen the credit union’s financial performance, enhance member service, and pursue sustainable growth while advancing its community development mission.

A native of Indiana, Harrison began her credit union career as a teller at Community Link FCU in Huntington, Ind., in 1999, and advanced to the position of CEO in 2009, where she has led the now-$36 million credit union since.

“I am honored to join Afena and look forward to working with the Board, staff, and members to build on the organization’s strengths,” Harrison said. “I bring to Afena a steady, hands-on leadership; a strong understanding of credit union operations; a practical approach to risk and financial management; and a genuine commitment to member service and community development. I am comfortable leading in a regulated environment while keeping the focus on people, relationships, and responsible growth.”

The appointment reflects Afena’s commitment to strong leadership, responsible stewardship, and the long-term sustainability of its community development mission. Under its new CEO, the credit union will continue working to balance financial strength with its purpose as a member-owned financial cooperative serving its members and community.

Harrison’s appointment follows the retirement of long-time Afena CEO Karen Madry, who was recently inducted into the Indiana Credit Union Hall of Fame.
