Credit Unions Pick IncumbentFI as Best of Show

A conceptual graphic representing a top tier fintech solution taking the crown at a virtual innovation showcase.

A member pulls up to a hardware store with a project half-finished and a checking balance that won’t cover the rest. They have a home equity line sitting open at the same credit union. But using it means a transfer, a branch visit, or a call, and by then the afternoon is gone.

Closing that gap is what IncumbentFI built its platform to do, and credit union professionals just voted it Best of Show for it.

IgniteFI announced that IncumbentFI took the top prize at its October 27, 2026, Firecracker Virtual Fintech Showcase. Credit union attendees did the voting, and the award recognizes the company’s approach to debit modernization: giving credit unions a way to deliver more member value without overhauling their existing card programs.

What the platform does

IncumbentFI’s Debit Modernization Platform lets members tap available line-of-credit funds in real time using the debit card they already carry. Two solutions anchor the offering:

  • HELOC-Link: connects home equity lines of credit to the debit card.
  • BizLine-Link: does the same for business lines of credit.
  • The payoff for credit unions: higher loan utilization, stronger member relationships, and steadier growth.

In short, a lending product that often sits idle becomes part of everyday spending.

Innovation without disruption

New technology tends to bring worries: what it costs, how much work it creates for staff, and whether members will actually use it. IncumbentFI sidesteps much of that by extending the debit cards members already have. Nobody has to learn a new payment method. Credit unions simply make the lending products they already offer easier to reach.

Julie Esser, CEO/Founder of IgniteFI, noted that the vote carried extra weight because it came from people evaluating tools for their own institutions. “IncumbentFI demonstrated how credit unions can bring new value to members by building on technology they already have in place,” she said. “That’s exactly the kind of practical innovation we want to highlight through Firecracker.”

Patrick O’Boyle, Executive Vice President at IncumbentFI, echoed the point. “Our mission is to help credit unions innovate without disruption,” he said. “By connecting existing debit cards to available lines of credit, we’re helping credit unions create more value from the products they already offer and make it easier for members to access the funds they need.”

About the Firecracker showcase

Firecracker is a virtual event where credit union leaders meet carefully selected fintech companies through fast-paced, seven-minute demos. Each edition features five solutions aimed at real industry challenges. October’s lineup covered small business credit protection, debit modernization, secure digital checks, business services training, and AI-driven business lending. Best of Show is decided by attendee votes, so participating credit unions have a direct say in which solutions rise to the top.

What to watch next

Two things are on the calendar. First, IncumbentFI is heading to VentureTech to pitch the Debit Modernization Platform to an audience focused on emerging fintech and credit union opportunities. Second, the company will give an encore presentation at the next Firecracker Virtual Fintech Showcase on February 23, 2027. Leaders who missed the winning demo can see how HELOC-Link and BizLine-Link work and how they could extend the value of an existing debit program.
