Here’s what happens when you combine a beautiful day at the golf course with a community that actually cares: $300,000 headed straight to kids who need it most.
Valley Strong Credit Union just wrapped up its first-ever Valley Strong Invitational Golf Tournament at Seven Oaks Country Club, and the results are pretty incredible. That six-figure check is going directly to Bakersfield Memorial Hospital’s Lauren Small Children’s Center, where it’ll fund new equipment, expanded programs, and resources for newborns, kids, and their families.
The tournament wasn’t just about sinking putts (though we’re sure there were some impressive ones). It brought together Valley Strong’s leadership team, local business sponsors, and community members who all showed up with one goal in mind: making sure kids in their region have access to top-notch healthcare when they need it.
Why This Matters

Translation: When local kids need specialized care, they shouldn’t have to travel hours away to get it. This fundraiser helps make sure they don’t have to.
What the Money Will Actually Do
The Lauren Small Children’s Center isn’t your average pediatric unit. It provides specialized care for the littlest and most vulnerable patients in Kern County and beyond—we’re talking advanced monitoring, specialized treatment services, and the kind of care that growing families desperately need during scary times.
Ken Keller, President and CEO of Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, put it simply: “We are grateful to Valley Strong Credit Union, tournament sponsors, and every participant who made this year’s invitational such a success. This generous support helps us continue caring for children and families close to home, and it strengthens our ability to deliver specialized services through the Lauren Small Children’s Center when families need it most.”
The funds will go toward critical equipment upgrades, enhanced programs for patients and families, and initiatives designed to improve outcomes for kids. In other words, this money will directly impact how well the Center can serve families during some of their toughest moments.
