Here’s what happens when you combine golf, good people, and an even better cause: magic.
Or in this case, a cool $100,000 headed straight to organizations doing real work in the community.
On August 27, The Golf Club at Newcastle transformed into ground zero for the Global Credit Union Foundation‘s annual Fairway Friends Golf Tournament. Players flew in from all corners of the country—because apparently, some causes are worth the travel miles—to swing clubs, share laughs, and support nonprofits that are actually moving the needle locally.
The event brought together an eclectic mix of business partners, credit union leaders, volunteers, and community members. Think of it as networking meets giving back, with a side of friendly competition. Global employees and representatives from the beneficiary organizations set up shop throughout the course, hosting activities that kept the day lively and memorable.
“It was inspiring to see players travel from across the country to support organizations that make such a meaningful difference in our communities,” said Geoff Lundfelt, President of the Global Credit Union Foundation. He also gave a shoutout to the sponsors, volunteers, and Global team members who turned what could’ve been just another golf outing into something genuinely special.
So where’s that six-figure haul headed? The $100,000 gets split down the middle between two organizations doing critical work:
PNW Armed Services YMCA takes home $50,000. They focus on junior enlisted service members and military families—folks who serve our country but often need support themselves. The funding helps power programs and services designed specifically for this community.
Camp Fire Central Puget Sound receives the other $50,000. Their mission? Helping young people learn, lead, and thrive through inclusive youth development programs. Because investing in kids today means building stronger communities tomorrow.
Not a bad day’s work for everyone who showed up, teed off, and proved that doing good doesn’t have to feel like, well, work.
