A small business owner in southwest New Mexico needs to send a vendor payment today. Not Thursday. Today.
At a community bank with $147 million in assets, that request has historically run into the limits of older banking systems. First New Mexico Bank of Silver City is working to change that.
The Announcement
PhoenixWorx, a provider of modern banking technology, announced the news from RISE!2026, its first-ever client conference. The bank has chosen the company’s Phoenix core processing system and its MalauzAI NextGen digital banking platform to support its ongoing growth.
(A “core” is the central system that keeps track of accounts, balances, and transactions. Everything else a bank offers sits on top of it.)
What the Bank Gets
The bank plans to use the technology to reinforce its standing as a community banking leader in its region. Three goals stand out:
- Commercial lending: Support for the bank’s growing focus on business loans.
- New payment options: Including real-time payments for both consumer and business customers.
- Digital first: A stronger emphasis on digital channels, with better self-service tools and a smoother experience for every customer.
In Their Words
S. Tyrone Lynch, President of First New Mexico Bank of Silver City, said the bank’s expansion across the state demanded a partner that could keep pace. “As we expand our presence across New Mexico, we needed a technology partner that could evolve alongside us and support our long-term vision,” he said. He added that PhoenixWorx offers “the flexibility and scalability to improve the customer experience, strengthen our commercial banking capabilities and bring new services to market as our customers’ needs change.”
Joe Gomez, President and CEO of PhoenixWorx, called the bank “exactly the kind of forward-looking community bank that PhoenixWorx is built to serve.” He said that pairing advanced core processing with modern digital banking lets ambitious community banks launch products sooner and respond to market opportunities faster, “without losing the personalized service that defines their brand.”
What to Watch Next
The real test comes with rollout. Keep an eye on when real-time payments reach customers, how quickly the bank’s commercial lending offerings expand, and whether the digital upgrades make everyday banking noticeably easier. PhoenixWorx will likely point to this deal as an early proof point as it builds momentum after its first client conference.
