A kid walks into their first day of school with fresh school supplies, a confidence-boosting haircut, and that “I’ve got this” feeling.
That’s exactly what Tucson Federal Credit Union wants for local youth, and they need your help to make it happen.
The clock is ticking. TFCU’s annual Back-to-School Supplies and Haircut Drive kicked off June 16, but donations close on July 15 — which means you’ve got just days left to chip in.
More Than Just a Haircut
Here’s how it works: TFCU has teamed up with Headliners Barber Shop to provide free back-to-school haircuts for kids who need them. The big day is Wednesday, July 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tucson Mall (4500 N Oracle Rd). It’s not just about looking good — though that certainly doesn’t hurt. It’s about giving kids the confidence to walk through those classroom doors ready to take on whatever the school year throws at them.
Haircut vouchers will go out through a local youth-serving nonprofit (they’ll announce which one soon), ensuring everything reaches the families who’ll benefit most.
Every Branch Is In on the Action
This year, TFCU went all-in, expanding the drive to every single branch across Tucson. Donation boxes are ready and waiting for new school supplies and cash contributions through July 15.
And here’s the cool part: you don’t need to be a TFCU member to help. Anyone can drop off cash donations at any branch. If you are a member, you’ve got an extra option — just ask a branch rep to transfer funds directly from your account into the special holding account they’ve set up for the drive. Either way, donations happen in person at the branch.
A Mission Rooted in Education
“TFCU’s commitment to education and opportunity began with our founding in the basement of Tucson High School in 1937, and it continues today through efforts like this Back-to-School Drive,” said Matthew Gaspari, TFCU President and CEO. “A fresh haircut and new school supplies can help a child walk into the first day of school with confidence. We are grateful to our members, community partners, and branch teams for helping make this possible, and we encourage anyone who can give to do so before the July 15 deadline.”
The haircut event is just one piece of TFCU’s bigger Back-to-School Week initiative, with additional family-friendly events planned around July 29. Keep your eyes peeled — they’ll share details soon.
Ready to Help? Here’s Your Game Plan:
- Swing by any TFCU branch before July 15 and drop off new school supplies
- Donate cash in person at any branch (members and non-members welcome)
- TFCU members can ask a branch rep to transfer funds from their account into the drive’s special holding account (must be done in person)
- Follow @TucsonFCU on social media to stay in the loop and find more ways to support
Bottom line: you’ve got until July 15 to make a difference. A few dollars or a pack of pencils might seem small, but to a kid starting a new school year? That’s everything.
